In 2018, the Washington State DMV started issuing new and renewal driver’s licenses with a new number series – rather than the historic numbers that started with the first five letters of your last name, they now begin with “WDL” and the following 10 characters are random.
Washington State driver’s licenses are valid for 6 or 8 years, so everyone will have the new licenses by 2026.
If you have a new license number that begins with WDL, please make sure to let us know - some carriers surcharge if they cannot validate your license number!
